The hardness of the coated surface is measured by moving the specimen-mounted test stand, scratching the surface with a needle to which a constant load is applied, and observing the resulting traces to determine the strength of the coating.
The quick return mechanism and the lateral feed mechanism of the test stand are convenient for repeated use.
The included pencil holder can be used as a pencil scratch hardness tester.
